Preventing Gout
Gout is a metabolic disease which affects the joints by causing excess uric acid to be deposited in the joints. It mainly affects males and leads to swelling and pains especially the feet and toes.
There are a number of medicines available to treat the disease, but there are other methods which any sufferer can try for preventing gout thus alleviating the need for medicines. Prevention being better than cure!
- Weight. Sufferers from gout are commonly overweight or obese. Gout can be both persistent or it can come at intervals. It has been positively show that people suffering from gout who lose weight experience a reduction in the intensity and periodicity of the gout attacks. The simple way of preventing gout is to lose weight.
- Gout Foods. There are certain foods eaten by many people which can dramatically increase the risk of becoming a gout sufferer. Try to avoid eating foods which contribute to gout. These include red meat and the ‘junk’ meat often used to make hamburgers and hot dogs. If you must eat meat in your diet although there is no reason why this is necessary, then make sure you eat good quality lean meat.
- Water. Gout is caused primarily by an excess of uric acid. Drinking plenty of water helps to flush out the system and alleviating any build up of uric acid. Thus preventing any accumulation of the uric acid crystals in the joints. Drinking water increases the hydration of the body which permits the necessary synovial fluid to clean out the joints efficiently.
- Fruit and Vegetables. Including good daily quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables achieve all of the above three recommendations, they will help you lose weight; they will act to hydrate your body, and can readily provide a healthier form of nourishment than red meat. Fruit and Vegetables are equally beneficial for the overall health and help prevent the onset of other diseases also.
